"Post your favorite song and write why you like it."
well, there are lots of songs I like. You could even say I love a lot of these songs. But I think the songs I truly "Love" are the ones with sentimental values to them. "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse, "For Good" (Wicked), "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey, "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift, and "I'll Make a Man Out of You" (Mulan), are just some of them. I guess to start I'll explain why I like each of these songs.
"Rehab": This one is simple. in Eighth grade year, Clare's dad would drive me to school every day and we'd listen to the radio. "Rehab" was very popular that year, and at least once a week (or so it seemed), it would come on the radio during carpool. Mr. Mc Creary would "dance" while driving, and Clare and I would just laugh along as we sang the lyrics. It was just one of those care-free moments that I'll always remember. (the lyrics really are fun to sing...)
"For Good": well, I LOVE the play Wicked. With that said, this song also struck a chord with me. It reminds me that even though I might be mad at one of my friends, I probably also played a part in the problem. Also, every one of us is made up of the influences from the people who we surround ourselves with. When I think about my senior year and how I'll be leaving what I've known my whole life, it's kind of scary. And this song just sums that all up.
"Don't Stop Believing": this song is just one of those inside jokes between Clare and I. We were having a heart to heart and with perfect timing, this song came on my ipod stating "Don't Stop Believing". It was kind of funny and I won't ever be able to listen to this without smiling.
"You Belong With Me": One time when I was visiting Caitlin and Becca, we went to the park and made a "music video" of this song. another one of those care-free moments that I just LOVE! -yellow bike ;)
"I'll Make a Man Out of You": Freshman year. I was on the Soph/Frosh team for water polo. We had a coach who didn't really know us that well. We lost practically every game... But then one day we beat this team. After the game, we met up in a huddle to celebrate and someone turned on their ipod playing this song. all of us girls sang the line "Let's get down to business, to defeat, the Huns." suddenly, our Coach joined in saying "Did they send me daughters, when i asked for sons?" it was hilarious. Turns out he knows all the lyrics... the start of an amazing year.
I guess right now my absolute favorite song would have to be "Back to December" by Taylor Swift.
the lyrics are:
I'm so glad you made time to see me.
How's life, tell me how's your family?
I haven't seen them in a while.
You've been gone, busier then ever.
We small talk, work and the weather
Your guard is up and I know why.
Cause the last time you saw me
Is still burned in the back of your mind.
You gave me roses and I left them there to die.
So this is me swallowing my pride,
Standing in front of you saying I'm sorry for that night,
And I go back to December all the time.
Turns out freedom ain't nothing but missing you,
Wishing that I realized what I had when you were mine.
I'd go back to December, turn around and make it all right.
I go back to December all the time.
These days I haven't been sleeping
Staying up playing back myself leaving,
When your birthday passed and I didn't call.
And I think about summer, all the beautiful times
I watched you laughing from the passenger side
Realized that I loved you in the fall.
Then the cold came, the dark days when fear crept into my mind.
You gave me all your love and all I gave you was goodbye.
So this is me swallowing my pride,
Standing in front of you saying I'm sorry for that night.
And I go back to December all the time.
Turns out freedom ain't nothing but missing you,
Wishing that I realized what I had when you were mine.
I'd go back to December turn around and change my own mind.
I go back to December all the time
I miss your tan skin, your sweet smile, so good to me, so right,
And how you held me in your arms that September night,
The first time you ever saw me cry.
Maybe this is wishful thinking,
Probably mindless dreaming
If we loved again I swear I'd love you right.
I'd go back in time and change it but I can't
So if the chain is on your door, I understand.
But this is me swallowing my pride,
Standing in front of you saying I'm sorry for that night,
And I go back to December.
Turns out freedom ain't nothing but missing you,
Wishing that I realized what I had when you were mine.
I'd go back to December turn around and make it alright.
I'd go back to December turn around and change my own mind.
I go back to December all the time.
I just love this song. I'm not sure why. It's just my favorite. not much I can say about it- it speaks for itself :)
